Platense - Velez Platense managed an important point on their visit to Godoy Cruz last time out, when they drew 2-2 after trailing on both occasions. El Calamar has been irregular lately, winning only one of their last five games in this competition (including two stalemates and two defeats), but they are performing a decent campaign on the return to the top flight: the side accumulated 28 points, which allows them to occupy 20th place in the relegation table. Platense succumbed to a single defeat across their last seven home matches, winning two and drawing four. Coach Claudio Sponton has…

Aldosivi vs Argentinos Jrs After two consecutive victories in league action, Aldosivi succumbed to a 2-0 away defeat at Talleres last time out despite having shown a worthy version. However, the team has improved under boss Martin Palermo, which allows them to accumulate 27 points in the Liga Profesional’s table. El Tiburon remains occupying the penultimate spot in the relegation rankings, level with Sarmiento and two points above bottom-placed Patronato. At home, Aldosivi won three of their last four games, only losing to Boca Juniors in the process. Argentinos Juniors keep their hope alive in the race for a ticket…

Gimnasia vs Estudiantes Gimnasia LP coach Nestor Gorosito decided to rest six of his usual starters last Sunday and the team couldn’t handle that: they lost 3-0 away at Argentinos Juniors to stop a two-game winning streak in league action. Therefore, El Lobo remain on 34 points in the league table, which is still a good campaign, but they were displaced from the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table (now trailing Union Santa Fe, who occupy the last qualifying berth by one point). As hosts, Gimnasia lost only one of their last four matches, winning two and drawing one.…

Godoy Cruz vs Platense Godoy Cruz put an end to their four-game winless streak in league action (one draw and three losses) last Saturday, when they thrashed Patronato 3-0 away. Diego Flores’ men made it 30 points in the league standings and also opened a five-point gap over the bottom place of the relegation table (where they are sitting in the 23rd place, having leapfrogged Sarmiento last weekend). On a sorry note, El Tomba are on two consecutive defeats at Estadio Malvinas Argentinas, having lost to Talleres and Estudiantes. With striker Matias Tissera in superb form (he netted a hat-trick),…

Banfield vs Independiente Banfield registered a scoreless away draw at newly-promoted Sarmiento in a boring match last Wednesday. Even though they would have wanted to earn a better result, El Taladro are improving under coach Diego Dabove: they lost only one of four matches, having won two and drawn one in the process. Independiente secured a big win in their struggle to get one of the Copa Libertadores’ tickets last Wednesday, when they beat Boca Juniors 1-0 with Carlos Benavidez netting a header in the first half. El Rojo made it 34 points in the league table (having taken ten…
