Lanus – Newell’s
Thanks to a goal from Jose Lopez in the 49th minute, Lanus took a highly-celebrated 1-0 away success at Independiente even though they played with ten men during the whole second half. Therefore, El Granate were one of the league leaders before this round started, accumulating 23 points after four league games unbeaten (three victories and one draw). However, they are yet to climb into one of theCopa Libertadores’ places in the aggregate table. At home, Luis Zubeldia’s men are without defeat in the last four, having won two and drawn two since losing to River Plate in round three.
Newell’s Old Boys weren’t able to handle River Plate’s offensive power and ended up losing 4-1 at home last Wednesday. Therefore, Fernando Gamboa’s men are now on six league games without a win (having managed only two points in the process). La Lepra continue producing a poor campaign in the Liga Profesional, accumulating 12 points so far. Furthermore, Newell’s have been winless in their last seven away matches in domestic action, having drawn two and lost five.
Every other team in the top places of the league won this weekend, and I expect Lanus to keep up and also get the 3 points against this weak Newell’s.

Defensa y Justicia – Banfield
Defensa y Justicia put up a good fight at Boca Juniors last Tuesday, when they drew 0-0 in an entertaining game. With 14 points in the league table and hovering in the bottom places of the aggregate rankings, El Halcon don’t seem to have any big aims left this season, but they hold a six-match unbeaten run in league action at the moment: two wins and four draws since losing to Aldosivi in round five. At home, Defensa grabbed ten points from the last 12 available
Banfield are struggling at the moment. Last Wednesday, the team wasted a 1-0 lead and ended up losing 2-1 to Rosario Central at home. As a result, they are now winless in the last eight league matches (four draws and four defeats). El Taladro are sitting in the penultimate spot of the Liga Profesional’s table on nine points, having claimed a single victory in 11 matches. On away turf, they haven’t won any of the last four, registering three stalemates and one loss since beating Union Santa Fe in round three.
Even if Defensa is not as solid as they were not long ago, they are better than this very poor Banfield and should beat them at their stadium.
