Red Bull Bragantino (Brazil) – Libertad (Paraguay)
Red Bull Bragantino continue to make history in their first continental appearance. A month ago, the team beat Rosario Central 1-0 at home to make it 5-3 on aggregate and reach the Copa Sudamericana’s semi-finals. In fact, they also are producing a remarkable campaign in the league: following a 1-1 away draw at EC Bahia, Mauricio Barbieri’s men hold onto the fifth spot of the table after 20 games, which would qualify them for the Copa Libertadores in 2022. On a sorry note, the side are on three games without a win, having drawn two and lost one. At home, Bragantino registered two victories, one stalemate and two losses across the last five matches.
Meanwhile, Libertad qualified for this stage for the third time in history (the last one in 2017) thanks to the away goals rule: they beat Santos 1-0 at home after losing 2-1 away in the first leg. On Friday, El Gumarelo won 1-0 at River Plate, but they continue performing an irregular campaign in the Paraguayan Torneo Clausura, with 11 points in nine games. However, Daniel Garnero’s men lost only one of their last seven games in all competitions (including the national cup), along with four victories and two draws. They also are on three away matches unbeaten, having won two and drawn one.
This brazilian side should be much better than this irregular Libertad in this first leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinals.
