Huracan vs Independiente
Huracan registered their seventh stalemate in 11 rounds in the Liga Profesional last Monday, when drawing 0-0 away at Sarmiento. Frank Kudelka are now on six league matches without defeat, but only one of those was a win. As a result, the team accumulated 13 points so far, which means they have only one team below them in the relegation table (as well as their last opponents and Platense).
Independiente produced a poor performance in their last league game, which resulted in a 1-0 home defeat to Lanus. As a result, Julio Falcioni’s men won only one of their last five league matches (drawing two and losing two) and they remain on 19 points in the Liga Profesional and are trailing their last opponents (who are leaders alongside Talleres) by four, which keeps them out of the Copa Libertadores spots in the 2021 aggregate table. On away turf, El Rojo managed eight points from 15 on offer after registering two victories, two draws and one defeat.
Despite the latest results, Independiente is the clear better team here and I expect them to win and climb again to the top places of the league.

Platense vs Argentinos Jrs
Platense produced a worthy performance last Tuesday, but they ended up losing 2-1 at league leaders Talleres in an entertaining game. As a result, the team won only one of their last five matches, drawing two and losing two, to accumulate only ten points in 11 games in the Liga Profesional. That means they are now level with Huracan and Sarmiento in the points average table, only above Aldosivi. At home, Platense grabbed five points in as many games in this tournament, registering one victory, two stalemates and two losses.
Argentinos Juniors had to settle for a 1-1 home stalemate against Patronato in an intense game last Wednesday. As a result, the team extended their winless streak to four league matches (two draws and two defeats since beating San Lorenzo 1-0 away in round seven). In the context of an irregular campaign, El Bicho accumulated 14 points, which means they can’t approach the continental spots in the 2021 aggregate table. On away turf, Gabriel Milito’s men took six points in as many matches, having won one, drawn three and lost two. First-choice goalkeeper Lucas Chaves succumbed to a tibia and fibula rupture against Patronato and will remain sidelined for several months.
Big derby, specially for Platense that spent so many years in the 2nd division, so even if they are not exactly the most reliable team I have to expect that they will play this like a final and can at least get a draw at home.

River vs Arsenal
River Plate moved up to third spot in the league table following their 4-1 away victory at Newell’s Old Boys, with Julian Alvarez in superb form. Marcelo Gallardo’s men played enjoyable football to make it six league games unbeaten (four successes and four draws) and accumulate 21 points (two behind leaders Lanus and Talleres). Besides, they hold onto one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. At home, River haven’t lost any of the last five in this competition, winning three and drawing two.
Sarandi Arsenal extended their winless streak to eight league matches (four stalemates and four defeats) last Tuesday, when the team settled for a 0-0 home draw against Colon (striker Nicolas Mazzola missed a penalty). El Viaducto remain bottom-placed in the league on eight points and also are occupying the last place of the aggregate table. Furthermore, they haven’t scored since coach Israel Damonte’s arrival (five matches).
River should definitely win this one comfortably if they want to fight for the championship.
