Arsenal – Velez

Sarandi Arsenal produced an excellent recovery last Monday, when they managed to secure a 2-2 home draw against Lanus after trailing 2-0 at one point. However, that point doesn’t count much for them: the team collected five points in as many games under coach Leonardo Madelon so far and claimed a single victory across the last nine games in league action (four draws and four losses), which places them in the 23rd spot of the relegation table. At home, El Viaducto lost only one of the last seven, winning three and drawing three.

Velez Sarsfield registered a 1-1 home draw against group leaders Estudiantes in an entertaining game last Sunday. As a result, the team extended their winless streak to four league matches, having drawn two and lost two since beating Aldosivi in the season opener. El Fortin are producing an irregular campaign so far, having earned five points in as many games. To make matters worse, Velez took a single point across their last six domestic games on away turf (their last success was at CA Central Cordoba in October).

Velez is definitely not the team they were last season, but they can still score, and Arsenal has scored and conceded in 4 of their 5 games this season, so I definitely expect goals here.

Platense – Patronato

Platense have been displaced from the playoff spots in group A following their 1-0 away defeat at Union Santa Fe in a hard-fought game last Friday. Claudio Sponton’s men made it two consecutive losses in the Copa Liga Profesional and remain on seven points after five matches, which places them in the 25th place of the relegation table. El Calamar lost their last home game to Banfield, which stopped a four-match winning streak at Estadio Ciudad de Vicente Lopez.

Patronato are the worst team in the league at the moment following their 1-0 home defeat to direct relegation contenders Sarmiento last Saturday (with Gabriel Graciani as interim boss after Ivan Delfino’s departure). The team earned a single point in five matches in this competition and also made it nine league games without a win (drawing three and losing six), which keeps them occupying one of the drop spots in the point-average table (eight points behind Godoy Cruz who are safe). Furthermore, El Patron are on 14 winless games on the road, having drawn five and lost nine since they beat Aldosivi 2-0 in July.

Platense is going through a decent season and I can’t understand this high odds at home against the worst team in the league.
