Colon – Godoy Cruz

Lucas Beltran’s goal in the 86th minute gave Colon a valuable point on their visit to Boca Juniors last Sunday, when they managed a 1-1 away draw with coach Julio Falcioni making his debut. However, the team claimed a single win across the last five matches in league action, having drawn two and lost two in that span. On a positive note, Colon won seven and drew three of their last 11 home matches, losing only once.

Gianluca Ferrari’s goal in the 93rd minute of the game allowed Godoy Cruz to save a point at home against Tigre following a 1-1 draw last Friday. Even though the team managed a single victory across their last eight league games (along with three stalemates and four losses), that point against one of their direct relegation contenders allowed Diego Flores’ men to stay five points above the relegation zone, occupying 24th place in the respective table.

Colon is a good strong team, they will have the debut of ex Boca’s striker Ramon Abila, and I expect them to win this.

Gymnastics – San Lorenzo

Gimnasia LP showed a decent version in the season opener last Sunday and managed a scoreless draw away at Racing Club, with goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey stopping a penalty in the first half. However, El Lobo are on four league matches without a win, having drawn the last three and lost one since beating Talleres 5-2 in November. On a positive note, Nestor Gorosito’s men suffered a single defeat in their last five home matches, along with two victories and two draws in that time.

San Lorenzo showed a better version in their debut in the 2022 league season, recording an away scoreless draw at Banfield with coach Pedro Troglio making his debut at the club. El Ciclon have therefore extended their unbeaten streak to four league matches, winning two and drawing two in that spell.

Tough game between two coaches that know each other very well, and an improved San Lorenzo should be able to get something out of it.

Defense and Justice – Racing

League runners up Defensa y Justicia couldn’t handle playing with ten men for 70 minutes and ended up losing 1-0 away at Newell’s Old Boys in the season opener last Thursday. That result broke their impressive 12-match unbeaten streak of ten victories and two draws. At home, Defensa remain without defeat in their last 11 league matches, having won eight and drawn three since losing to Godoy Cruz 2-1 in July.

Racing Club continue to struggle under coach Fernando Gago. Last Sunday, the team had a disappointing debut in the league and registered a scoreless home draw against Gimnasia LP. In fact, La Academia won only two of their last six league games, along with one draw and three defeats in the process. On away turf, Racing lost their last two domestic games to River Plate and Huracan without even scoring. Left back Eugenio Mena had to be replaced at Racing Club with muscle issues and will miss out.

Defensa had to play with 10 men almost the whole game at Newell’s and that cost them the match, but they are definitely better than this Racing and should get the win at home.

Sarmiento – Banfield

Coach Israel Damonte started life at Sarmiento with a much-needed 1-0 home win over Atletico Tucuman last Thursday, with Lisandro Lopez scoring his first strike at the club in the second half. The team stopped two negative streaks: seven league games without a win (one draw and six defeats) and also three winless matches at their own stadium (having drawn one and lost two in that tough spell). Furthermore, the side leapfrogged Patronato to stay out of the relegation zone. Coach Israel Damonte can pick from all his regulars to host Banfield on Thursday.

Banfield produced an interesting performance last Friday, when they had to settle for a scoreless home draw against San Lorenzo in an even game. Coach Diego Dabove continues performing well at the club as his team suffered only one defeat in eight games under his tutelage, with three victories and four draws. On away turf, he registered one success and two stalemates in charge of El Taladro, without even conceding.

I can’t see Banfield as the favorites here against a Sarmiento with an interesting an experienced attack.
