Bragantino (Brazil) – Rosario Central (Argentina)
Red Bull Bragantino took a big step towards the Copa Sudamericana’s semi-finals last Tuesday, when beating Rosario Central 4-3 away with three goals scored by winger Artur. Last Saturday, coach Mauricio Barbieri fielded an alternative XI that ended up losing 2-1 to Juventude at home. That result stopped two positive runs: three games unbeaten in all competitions (two wins and one draw) and ten games without defeat at home (three victories and seven stalemates in regular time). Speaking of the league, Bragantino remain fourth-placed on 28 points despite losing the last game.
After losing 4-3 at home to Red Bull Bragantino a week ago, Rosario Central will have to score at least twice in Brazil if they want to return to the top four in a continental competition after 20 years. On Saturday, coach Cristian Gonzalez rested all his regulars and the team lost 2-1 to Independiente at their own stadium. That means El Canalla are on five defeats in a row in all competitions and earned only three points in six rounds in league action. On away turf, Central are on four games without a win, drawing one and losing the last three.
The first leg was a crazy 3-4 thriller and considering Rosario Central is forced to win, I have to expect another open game here.
