Colon vs Estudiantes
Colon’s winless streak in league action has been extended to seven matches (five draws and two defeats) last Tuesday, when the team had to settle for a 1-1 away stalemate at Huracan in an even match. Following this negative run, Julio Falcioni’s men remain out of the qualifying spots in group B, accumulating 15 points in 11 matches in the Copa Liga Profesional, three behind fourth-placed Boca Juniors. El Sabalero also are on three domestic games without a win at home, having drawn two and lost one in that spell.
Estudiantes virtually secured their ticket to the playoffs thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 home success over Tigre last Tuesday. Following that victory, El Pincha continue at the top of the group B table on 24 points and remain unbeaten in their last five league matches (three victories and two draws since losing to Boca Juniors in round six). Ricardo Zielinski’s men also are on eight away matches without defeat in league action, winning three and drawing five, but their last defeat was at Colon (2-1 in October).
With the playoffs place already secured, Estudiantes will rest all regulars ahead of their midweek Copa Libertadores game. Colon must win or they could be out of any chances this same weekend, so I have to go with the hosts here.
