Colon vs Newell’s

Last Saturday, defending champions Colon produced their worst performance in the current league competition. The 3-0 away defeat at Independiente represented their third consecutive game without a win (one draw and two losses). However, El Sabalero are performing a good campaign so far, accumulating 14 points in nine games. In fact, they are on three home matches unbeaten, having won two and drawn one. Right back Facundo Mura saw a red card against Independiente and is suspended, but the rest of the regulars are at Eduardo Dominguez’s disposal for Saturday.

Newell’s Old Boys’ winless streak in the league has been extended to four matches (one draw and three losses) as the team lost 2-1 at home to Atletico Tucuman in a hard-fought game last Monday. Fernando Gamboa’s men continue performing an irregular campaign in this competition, accumulating 11 points in nine matches. Furthermore, La Lepra grabbed only one point across their last six away games in domestic action.

They both average more than 1 goal conceded and scored per round, so I expect an open game here between two good attacking teams.

Platense vs San Lorenzo

Platense showed their best version in this tournament last weekend and it was enough to beat Banfield 4-2 away in an entertaining game. Thanks to that victory, the team climbed out of the bottom spot in the relegation table to occupy 21st place at the moment. El Calamar made it nine points in as many games in the Liga Profesional, with seven of those arriving in the last four games (two wins, one draw and one loss). At home, Platense registered one success, one stalemate and two defeats so far.

San Lorenzo put an end to their five-match winless streak of one draw and four consecutive defeats last Monday, when beating Patronato 3-0 at home with Nicolas Fernandez, Cristian Zapata and Franco Di Santo scoring. El Ciclon made it 11 points, which is a poor campaign for them, and the side continue out of the continental spots in the aggregate table. In fact, Paolo Montero’s men are on three defeats in a row on away turf, having lost to Union Santa Fe, Talleres and Estudiantes without even scoring.

San Lorenzo finally showed a much better face last week on the 3-0 win vs Patronato, and considering they had a talented squad this could be the starting point of something good for them.

Lanus vs Sarmiento

Lanus remain as one of the league leaders thanks to their 3-2 away success at Aldosivi last Sunday, when Jose Sand (2) and Jose Lopez found the back of the net. El Granate made it 19 points after losing only one of their last six league matches (along with four victories and one draw in that stretch). However, that is not yet enough to climb into one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. At home, Luis Zubeldia’s men are on three games unbeaten in this competition, winning two and drawing one.

Sarmiento succumbed to a heartbreaking 2-1 home defeat to River Plate last Monday, when they showed a worthy game but conceded the winner in the 91st minute. Following that loss, Mario Sciacqua’s men remain on ten points in the league, having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five games. Now the side have only two teams below them in the relegation table (Huracan and Godoy Cruz). Sarmiento remain winless on away turf since their return to the top flight, having registered five draws and six losses.

Lanus are the league leaders, they have the top scorer, so they shouldn’t have problems to beat this poor Sarmiento that has a long run of winless away games.

BET: Lanus -0.75 @ 1.86
