Defensa y Justicia – Rosario Central
Defensa y Justicia continue to improve game after game. Last Friday, the team managed a 2-1 away success at Racing Club thanks to goals from Walter Bou and Franco Paredes. Following a six-match unbeaten streak in the league (five victories and one draw), El Halcon accumulated 31 points in the Liga Profesional and are now involved in the fight for a continental ticket (trailing Union Santa Fe, who are occupying the last Copa Sudamericana spot by one point in the aggregate table). Furthermore, Defensa are on eight home matches without defeat, having won six and drawn two since losing to Godoy Cruz in round two.
Meanwhile, Rosario Central wasted a big chance of climbing into one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate table last Sunday, when they lost 3-1 at Union Santa Fe in a six-pointer. That defeat also stopped their four-game unbeaten streak of two victories and two draws in the league. The team continue producing an irregular campaign in this competition, accumulating 24 points in 19 games. On away turf, El Canalla haven’t won any of the last four, with two draws and two defeats since beating Banfield 2-1 in September.
8 goals scored by Defensa in the last 4 games, and I expect them to continue like this against this Rosario Central that has the 3rd worst defense of the league.

Lanus – Estudiantes
Lanus secured a much-needed 1-0 away victory at Argentinos Juniors last Friday, when captain Lautaro Acosta found the back of the net in the first half. The team are now on four league matches without defeat in league action (two wins and two draws) and are now occupying third spot of the league rankings on 34 points, which allows them to climb into one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots in the aggregate table. El Granate succumbed to a single defeat across their last eight league matches at home, having won three and drawn four. Striker Jose Sand tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss out, as well as centre back Diego Braghieri, who had to be replaced at Argentinos Juniors due to a knee problem.
Estudiantes earned a valuable point last Sunday, when they settled for a 1-1 home draw against league leaders River Plate in an intense game. However, the team also extended their winless run to seven matches in league action, having drawn five and lost two in that span. Accumulating 28 points in the Liga Profesional, El Pincha are only three points behind the last Copa Libertadores’ place in the aggregate table, occupied by Lanus. On a sorry note, Ricardo Zielinski’s men grabbed only one point from the last nine available on away turf (one draw and two losses since beating Patronato in September). Defensive midfielder Jorge Rodriguez is still recovering from a muscle problem.
Lanus has two of the league’s top 3 scorer, and even though they will miss Jose Sand they still have enough firing power to score here, and considering their defense has been terrible lately and they won’t have Braghieri, I expect to see goals here.
