Newell’s – Central Cordoba
Newell’s Old Boys two-game winning streak came to an end last Sunday, when they succumbed to a surprising 3-1 away defeat at bottom-placed Sarandi Arsenal. The team continue going through a terrible campaign, having accumulated only 23 points in 21 matches in the Liga Profesional. On a positive note, La Lepra are on three home matches unbeaten, having won two and drawn one in that spell.
CA Central Cordoba seem to be finding their way to succeed. Last Saturday, the team managed an important 1-0 home victory over Independiente through a goal from captain Cristian Vega. It was their second consecutive win in the context of a poor campaign in general terms (they earned only 20 points in 21 games). As a result of this positive streak, Sergio Rondina’s men climbed into the 22nd spot of the relegation table. Central Cordoba also won their last away game (3-1 at Sarmiento), which stopped a 13-game winless run of eight draws and five losses on the road.
Even if they are both very irregular and poor teams, I can’t see Newell’s having this really big odds at home so I’m betting the hosts here.

Sarmiento – Banfield
Sarmiento interim coach Martin Funes had a sorry debut after Mario Sciacqua’s departure: his team lost 2-0 away at Boca Juniors last Saturday, which represented their third consecutive defeat in the Liga Profesional. El Verde dropped them down to the 24th place in the relegation table after accumulating only 23 points in 21 games in this tournament. Sarmiento’s home campaign has been irregular as they registered five victories, one draw and five defeats in this competition.
After two wins in a row, Banfield succumbed to their first loss under recently-appointed coach Diego Dabove. It was last Thursday, when the team wasted several goalscoring chances (including a penalty) and ended up losing 2-0 to Aldosivi at home. El Taladro continue producing a poor campaign in the Liga Profesional, with 21 points in as many games, which places them in the 18th spot of the relegation table. Banfield won at Gimnasia LP 1-0 in their last away game to break an eight-match winless run of six draws and two losses on the road.
Also two irregular and poor teams meeting here, I can’t see why Banfield would be favorites away so I’m betting the hosts not to lose.

Atletico Tucuman – Defensa y Justicia
Atletico Tucuman are yet to win in five games under recently-appointed coach Pablo Guinazu. Following their 3-1 away defeat at Rosario Central in an entertaining game, the team managed only two points from the last 15 on offer, which means El Decano dropped down to the 23rd spot of the league table, accumulating only 21 points in as many games. At home, Atletico managed only one victory across their last six matches, along with three draws and two losses. Coach Pablo Guinazu welcomes back Ramiro Carrera on Wednesday as the winger served his one-game suspension.
Defensa y Justicia seem unbeatable at the moment. Last Thursday, the team secured a 3-2 away success at Union Santa Fe, with striker Walter Bou netting a brace. As a result, the team extended their unbeaten streak to eight league games (seven victories and one draw) to make it 37 points in the Liga Profesional (climbing into third place) and also continue occupying one of the Copa Sudamericana spots in the aggregate standings.
The worst defense in the league, Atletico’s, meets one of the hottest attacks, so I definitely expect to see goals here.
