Gimnasia – Talleres
Gimnasia LP don’t give up on their fight to clinch a ticket for the next Copa Sudamericana. Last Friday, they managed to beat San Lorenzo 1-0 away thanks to a strike from Eric Ramirez in the first half. Having lost only one of their last seven league matches (winning four and drawing two), El Lobo accumulated 31 points and approached the continental spots in the aggregate table. After securing a single win in four games as hosts at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata (with one draw and two defeats), Gimnasia will return to their own stadium on Tuesday as a full capacity has been allowed.
Talleres couldn’t hold onto their lead and ended up drawing 1-1 at home against Velez Sarsfield last Friday. That means they are running out of chances to fight for the title, but on the other hand, the team remain second-placed on 40 points, which allows them to continue occupying one of the Copa Libertadores’ spots for next season. Furthermore, Alexander Medina’s men are on four league games unbeaten, having won two and drawn two in that time. They also are one of the best away sides in the league, accumulating 17 points in 11 games so far.
Four rounds left, if Talleres wants to get a Copa Libertadores place these are the kind of games where not even a draw is useful so I can imagine they will definitely go for the win.

Velez – Argentinos Jrs
Juan Martin Lucero’s goal in the second half allowed Velez to take an important point on their visit to Talleres last Friday, when they drew 1-1. After succumbing to a single defeat in their last 15 league games (along with nine victories and five stalemates), El Fortin accumulated 35 points in the Liga Profesional and need only one more point to secure their ticket to the Copa Libertadores 2022 through the aggregate table. At home, Velez are on eight games unbeaten in this competition, with six victories and two draws.
Argentinos Juniors extended their winless streak to four league games (two draws and two defeats) last Friday, when they had to settle for a scoreless stalemate against Godoy Cruz at home. The team produced an irregular campaign in the Liga Profesional, with 26 points, and continue wasting chances of approaching the Copa Sudamericana spots in the 2021 aggregate table. On away turf, Gabriel Milito’s men managed a single point from the last nine available (since beating Rosario Central in early October).
Without a doubt Velez is the better team here, they are very close to secure a Copa Libertadores place and the should beat this very irregular Argentinos.

Godoy Cruz – Estudiantes
Godoy Cruz continue deflating their performance. On Friday, they registered a scoreless draw away at Argentinos Juniors in a poor game, which represented their third league encounter without a victory (having lost the previous two). The team are now performing an irregular campaign in the league with 27 points, which places them in the 23rd spot of the relegation standings (only three points above bottom-placed Aldosivi). At home, they won only one of the last five games, drawing three and losing one.
Estudiantes finally put an end to an eight-match winless run of six draws and two defeats last Friday, when they thrashed Huracan 4-1 at home. As a result, they made it 32 points in the Liga Profesional and also climbed into sixth spot in the aggregate table, trailing Boca Juniors (who are currently qualifying for the Copa Libertadores) by four points.
Estudiantes comes from a big win, Godoy Cruz are not in their best form, so I can see the visitors taking something from this game.
