Fortaleza (Brazil) vs Rosario Central (Argentina)
Fortaleza EC secured an important point on their visit to Rosario Central last Wednesday, when they ended up drawing 1-1 away at Rosario Central, and now they need to win at home in order to advance to the quarter-finals. Furthermore, O Leao won 2-1 away at Red Bull Bragantino on Saturday to remain second-placed in the Brazilian league table on 45 points, just one behind leaders Botafogo FR. In fact, Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s men are unbeaten in their last ten in all competitions, with eight wins and two draws. At home, Fortaleza haven’t lost any of their last 19, winning 14 and drawing five.
Meanwhile, Rosario Central will face a tough task on Wednesday following their 1-1 home stalemate against Fortaleza EC in a hard-fought clash last week. On Saturday, coach Matias Lequi fielded an alternative XI and his team ended up losing 1-0 away at Independiente. That defeat stopped a three-match unbeaten streak of two victories and one draw in all competitions and left them on 15 points in 11 Liga Profesional rounds. Central won only one of their last six as the visiting side, drawing two and losing three.
Fortaleza didn’t play as expected at Rosario but they were just playing defensive football trying to hold to a draw and they did it. At home it should be a different story, they are super strong at their stadium and Central is very irregular, and still without legendary striker Marco Ruben I expect them to be in trouble here.

Lanus (Argentina) vs LDU Quito (Ecuador)
Lanus celebrated a massive 2-1 away victory at LDU Quito last Wednesday, reversing the score thanks to goals from Gonzalo Perez and Marcelino Moreno. As a result, the 2013 champions just need a home point to reach the quarter-finals. On Saturday, an alternative XI had to settle for a 1-1 home draw against relegation candidates CA Central Cordoba, making it 16 points in 11 rounds of league action. Overall, Ricardo Zielinski’s men lost only one of their last four competitive matches, winning two and drawing one. At home, Lanus remain unbeaten in their last four, with three victories and one stalemate.
LDU Quito couldn’t hold onto their lead and ended up succumbing to a heartbreaking 2-1 home defeat to Lanus in the first leg, which means they will need to win in Argentina to keep their hope alive. On Saturday, they won 1-0 away at SD Aucas to remain perfect in the Ecuadorian league’s second stage, taking all nine points in three rounds so far. In fact, Pablo Sanchez’s men lost only one of their last five matches in all competitions, winning three and drawing one in regular time. On away turf, Liga are on three unbeaten, with two victories and one draw.
The 1st leg was a very open game, now Liga still won’t have their goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez who is suspended, while the hosts will have striker Leandro Diaz back from an injury so I expect a similar match here with the visitors forced to go for the win, so I’ll go for the OVER here.
