Betting Tips for This Weekend’s Matches

  • Lanus vs Central Cordoba: Central Cordoba +0.75 @ 1.95
  • Independiente vs Rosario Central: Independiente -0.5 @ 1.91
  • Gimnasia vs River Plate: Gimnasia +0.25 @ 1.99
  • Velez vs Instituto: Over 1.75 @ 1.87

Lanus – Central Cordoba

Lanus showed a very worrying version in their last league game, succumbing to an unexpected 3-1 away defeat to newly-promoted Deportivo Riestra. That result means El Granate lost two of their last three Liga Profesional commitments, along with only one win in that spell. Ricardo Zielinski’s men remain on 15 points in ten rounds, which keeps them occupying the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table. Lanus also are holding a four-match winning streak at their own stadium in domestic action. On Wednesday 14, Lanus won 2-1 away at Ecuador’s LDU Quito in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16.

CA Central Cordoba were finally able to secure their first Liga Profesional victory in 2024. Last Sunday, the team managed to beat Defensa y Justicia 2-0 at home with Rafael Barrios and Matias Godoy scoring. However, they remain bottom in the respective table on four points. That victory allowed them to stop a 14-match winless streak of four stalemates and ten defeats and to climb out of the relegation spot in the aggregate table, now advantaging Tigre by one point. Central took just two points from the last 21 available as the visiting side. There is no relevant injury news for coach Omar De Felippe to visit Lanus on Saturday.

Lanus won at Ecuador midweek in Copa Sudamericana and play the return leg in just a few days, so they will use a lineup full of reserves here. Even though Central Cordoba has been far from reliable this year, the coach change seems to have made them a better team as shown with their win last week, and I’ll trust them here to avoid a defeat.

BET: Central Cordoba +0.75 @ 1.95

Independiente – Rosario Central

Independiente were finally able to secure their first success under recently-appointed coach Julio Vaccari. Last Sunday, they won 2-0 away at Estudiantes with Kevin Lomonaco and Gabriel Avalos scoring. El Rojo stopped a four-match winless streak of two stalemates and two defeats in league action to make it 11 points in ten Liga Profesional games, which leaves them just four points behind the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table. Independiente won two and lost one of their last nine home matches, along with six draws. Santiago Lopez reached the yellow-card limit and is suspended. Winger Alex Luna returns from his ban.

Rosario Central fans will have felt delighted as their team were able to win the city derby again. Their 1-0 home success over arch-rivals Newell’s Old Boys (thanks to a strike from Facundo Mallo in the 83rd minute) means El Canalla made it two consecutive victories in the Liga Profesional under interim coach Matias Lequi and made it 15 points in the Liga Profesional to keep their hope alive to fight for a continental tickets in the remaining rounds. Central lost only one of their last four away games in this competition, winning two and drawing one in that spell. On Wednesday 14, Central drew 1-1 at home against Brazil’s Fortaleza EC in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana round of 16. Captain Marco Ruben succumbed to a muscle injury and will miss out on Saturday.

After winning the derby vs Newell’s last weekend and the draw at home in Copa Sudamericana, Rosario Central is expected to use a lineup full of reserves here because they have a midweek trip to Brazil to play the return leg. Independiente comes from a good win at Estudiantes, mood is better and winger Alex Luna will be back in the starting lineup, so I’ll trust the hosts to take the 3 points.

BET: Independiente -0.5 @ 1.91

Gimnasia – River Plate

Gimnasia LP showed great improvements last weekend and secured a massive 1-0 away success at Racing Club thanks to a strike from Benjamin Dominguez in the first half. That victory allowed them to stop a four-game losing streak in this competition. El Lobo made it 13 points in the Liga Profesional and took an important breather in the aggregate table, opening a 15-point gap over the relegation spot. On a sorry note, Gimnasia lost their last two at home (to San Lorenzo and Rosario Central without even scoring). Left back Valentin Rodriguez succumbed to a muscle problem and will miss out. First-choice goalkeeper Nelson Insfran returns from suspension on Saturday.

River Plate new coach Marcelo Gallardo experienced a rough debut in his second spell at the club: a hard-fought 1-1 home stalemate against league leaders Huracan means El Millonario claimed a single victory across their last six Liga Profesional matches, drawing three and losing two. The side are now accumulating 15 points in this competition, five behind the top of the table, which is however enough to stay into the Copa Libertadores zone in the aggregate table. In fact, River took a single point from the last 12 on offer as the visiting side in domestic action. On Wednesday 14, River won at Talleres 1-0 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16. Strikers Facundo Colidio and Miguel Borja remain sidelined. Boss Marcelo Gallardo will rest his starters on Saturday.

After the very tight and lucky win in Copa Libertadores, River will rest their starters here before the 2nd leg. Without Borja, their attack is much weaker, so I expect Gimnasia, who are coming from a good win at Racing, to be able to at least avoid a defeat.

BET: Gimnasia +0.25 @ 1.99

Velez – Instituto

Velez Sarsfield wasted the big chance of becoming Liga Profesional leaders last Sunday, when they had to settle for a 2-2 away draw at Banfield after leading 2-0 at one point. However, El Fortin are going through a remarkable moment of form: they made it five league games unbeaten, winning four and drawing one to accumulate 18 points (two behind table toppers Huracan), which allows them to remain at the top of the aggregate table so far. Velez have been without defeat in their last home matches, with seven victories and three stalemates in that spell. Damian Fernandez, recovering from a long-term foot injury, is the only relevant absentee.

Instituto returned to winning ways last Sunday, securing a late 2-0 home success over Platense thanks to goals from Fernando Alarcon and Facundo Suarez after the 80th minute. Therefore, they stopped a three-game winless streak of two stalemates and one defeat in league action and made it 18 points in the Liga Profesional, just two behind leaders Huracan and three behind the last Copa Sudamericana berth in the aggregate table. On away turf, Instituto won only one of the last four, drawing one and losing two.

Both can become leaders with a win, Velez has scored at least 2 goals in each of their last 6 games and Instituto has been a good attacking team as well so I have to take this short total line.

BET: OVER 1.75 @ 1.87
