Much will be expected of the three relegated clubs when the Coca Cola Championship kicks off this weekend. All eyes will be on Newcastle after a season of turmoil on and of the pitch they will be hoping they can bounce back at the first time of asking. Middlesbrough will also want to mount a serious push for promotion in which could be theirs and Gareth Southgate’s defining season.

Norwich have to be the team to beat in this division. With Wes Hoolahan having experience in his league with Blackpool he could be a star for the Canaries. I think teams like Millwall, Leeds, Charlton, Huddersfield and MK dons will also be pushing for promotion.

Following on from the previous post about Premiership Handicaps, this one is about the Championship. This has been a hard league to bet in. On any given day, the top team can be beat by the bottom team. Many a punter have lost money on this league. With just over a week left to go until the Premiership kicks off I am going to have a look at the Premiership Handicap Race. This gives a good idea of what the bookies think will happen. All teams are given a handicap apart from the team that the bookie thinks will win it. Well, they do get a handicap but its +0. Everyone else gets a handicap. At the end of the season the actual points and handicaps are added together and the winner is the one with the most points.

Bookie Paddy Power is offering 100/1 that Nott’s County will be in the Premier League in four seasons time following Sven Goran Eriksson’s imminent arrival to the club as Director of Football. Current manager Ian McParland will still be the manager but having an experienced manger as director of football will surely help.
With the recent takeover from Middle East consortium Munto Finance and Sven’s appointment Notts County are now 8/1 to win this season’s League Two title and 5/2 for promotion. The Meadow Lane club had been 25/1 for the title prior to the Arab takeover and 12/1 before news of Sven’s appointment.

Whilst some bookmakers offer just five places on the biggest golf betting event of the year Paddy Power are again leading the way down the fairway to payout on the first seven players at the top of the final leaderboard. An each way bet pays 1/4 odds at Paddypower.
With Tiger Woods in fine form after his win at the AT&T National over the weekend the world number one is just 2/1 to win at Turnberry next week, which if the betting is to be believed could make the each way odds to seven places that Paddy Power are offering all the more valuable.

This Saturday sees the start of the Tour de France 2009. The big news is that 7 times winner, Lance Armstrong is returning.
Armstrong is the 11/2 second favourite to win the Tour De France behind hot favourite Alberto Contador at 11/10. As with many sports Paddy Power has seen a firm split between the head and the heart in the betting. The emotional money has been firmly toward Armstrong whilst Contador, winner of the Tour two years ago and considered the best rider in the world, attracts the serious wagers.

Paddy Power is offering 5/1 that Michael Owen plays for Hull City next season following confirmation he will leave relegated Newcastle this summer. Owen has reported that he wants to stay in the Premiership rather than going back to Spain. The Premiership is where he belongs.
Phil Brown’s public courting of Owen over the weekend has put Hull in as second favourites to sign Owen in Paddy Power’s betting behind 2/1 favourites Everton. Also in the running are Spurs at 6/1 with Man City and Aston Villa both at 7/1.

Paris Hilton a socialite, turned reality TV star, turned pop singer and actress, and Ronaldo is the most expensive player in football history after being sold to Real Madrid for a mega £80million.
