Bookie Paddy Power is offering 100/1 that Nott’s County will be in the Premier League in four seasons time following Sven Goran Eriksson’s imminent arrival to the club as Director of Football. Current manager Ian McParland will still be the manager but having an experienced manger as director of football will surely help.

With the recent takeover from Middle East consortium Munto Finance and Sven’s appointment Notts County are now 8/1 to win this season’s League Two title and 5/2 for promotion. The Meadow Lane club had been 25/1 for the title prior to the Arab takeover and 12/1 before news of Sven’s appointment.

Another flirtation with relegation out of the Football League also looks to be a distant memory with the club 25/1 to be relegated should it all end in tears.

The ambitious new owners have set their sights on Championship football as a priority and Paddy Power is offering 16/1 they secure a slot in that division by the start of the 2011/12 season whilst it’s 100/1 they’ve made it all the way to the Premier League a year later, the shortest time possible with three successive promotions required.

Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “It’s unusual for Sven to flirt with an old bird from the lower leagues but that’s exactly what he’s done with The Magpies, the oldest club in football. It’s certainly done their hopes for this season no harm though with County now second favourites to win the League Two title – and not many of their supporters would have dreamed of that a few months ago.”

Sven did seem to work his magic at Man City a few years ago but that fizzled out. After leaving City, Sven managed the Mexican national side but was sacked after a run of disappointing results.
