Odds on Burnley being relegated and staying up.

So after 3 games, Burnley are sitting in 7th place. With the fixture list they way it was, Burnley manager, Owen Coyle will be on cloud 9. Even the most die hard Burnley fans could have thought this was possible.

Not many teams get anything from the Britannia Stadium so the opening day defeat was not a disaster. Newly promoted teams like Burnley usually live or die by their home form. That has, in a word been, exceptional. Who’d have thought that Burnley would beat Manchester United? The bookies certainly didn’t offering 10/1 on the Burnley win. On Sunday, they beat Everton 1-0 too. Saha missed a penalty so Everton could have got something from the game.

Despite this, Burnley are still odds on for relegation with William Hill who make them 4/6 to go down and 11/10 to stay up. ‘The jury is still out, but they have started as though they mean to be this season’s Hull or Reading, and 11/10 to stay up could turn out to be excellent value.’

We think thats a good punt too. This is actually a very good season for promoted teams. At the bottom there are several teams which could do down. With Burnley’s excellent start they surely have an advantage over the 10 or so teams which could go down this year.

William Hill make Hull 4/6 to go down (11/10 stay up) with Portsmouth 8/11 (evens stay up); 5/4 Birmingham, 15/8 Wolves; 4/1 Wigan; 9/2 Bolton, and Stoke; 6/1 Blackburn.
