Hull saves bookies Millions

The shock result of Hull over Arsenal has saved the bookmaking industry millions.  With all the other heavy favourites winning, it only needed Arsenal to complete many accumulators. After Arsenal went 1 up, the price for a Hull victory was matched at 599/1 on Betfair.  The correct score of 2-1 was matched at a high of 699/1.

William Hill Spokesman Graham Sharpe, said, ‘It would have been the heftiest ever payout in football betting’s history – the football equivalent of Frankie Dettori’s Magnificent Seven in horse racing – and it is ironic that Frankie is a Gunners fan’

‘We were inundated with massive potential payouts on accumulator bets, which had team an Arsenal victory with every combination of Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Celtic, Leeds and Aston Villa – all of whom won. Tens of millions would have been drained out of bookies’ coffers had Arsenal won – as it is the industry is celebrating its most profitable day of football betting ever.’

One William Hill client from Surrey staked £100 on a Hull victory by 2-1 – ‘He took 33/1 and won £3300 but later in the day we pushed the odds out to 66/1, so he would have won even more had he waited a little. Otherwise, the biggest bets we took for a Hull victory at 16/1 were two £100 bets.
