Horses Breeders’ Cup Betting Tips

October 24, 2008 by Filed under: horse racing

This weekend’s Breeders Cup from Santa Anita sees some familiar names in action, including Duke Of Marmalade and Henrythenavigator, winners of nine Group 1 races between them this season. But can they beat the Yanks in their own backyard?

In previous years, our turf horses have struggled to win on dirt but the new synthetic surface being used this year should ensure a more level playing field. Take the Classic for example, which on dirt would have been a penalty kick for the alleged ‘greatest horse in the world’ Curlin. He’s still bet365′s 7/4 favourite, but all three of our horses, Henrythenavigator (6/1), Raven’s Pass (7/1) and Duke Of Marmalade (8/1) must have chances, with slight preference for ‘Henry’, whose turn of foot may prove decisive.

Elsewhere, we’ve got sound chances with Soldier Of Fortune (10/3) and St Leger winner Conduit (4/1) in the Breeders Cup Turf, a race we’ve plundered 13 times out of 24 runnings. In the ‘Mile’, French raider Goldikova is a red-hot 13/8 favourite at bet365, but this may be one race for the Americans, who have a strong hand with last year’s winner Kip Deville (9/2) and Whatsthescript (9/1).

So, with a record number of runners, it could well be worth throwing a fistful of dollars at the Europeans to gun down the locals, especially as bet365 are offering enhanced place terms on all the races of ¼ 1.2.3. Don’t accept anything less!
