English Premiership Mini Preview 2009-2010

August 6, 2009 by Filed under: Football

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and of course Manchester United, for the last few years these four have dominated English football and as a neutral I have found it rather boring. Well there’s a new kid on the block. A club with more financial muscle than anyone else in this great footballing land of ours. Please step forward Manchester City.

Now I’m not saying that City are going straight to the top, but as Arsenal have been bottom of the “big 4 league” is recent years i think Arsene Wenger will be looking over his shoulder. The sale of Cristiano Ronaldo has now put Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea on a more even level.

They say one man doesn’t make a team but when that one man is Ronaldo it certainly helps the cause. Even after all the money Real Madrid have spent i still feel the transfer of the summer window cost nothing. Sir Alex Ferguson is a gambling man and he knows a decent punt when he sees one (rumours of him using this website are yet to be confirmed).

Michael Owen is definitely worth a punt, If and its a big if, he manages to stay injury free he will score a hat-full for the red half of Manchester. When someone talks about Liverpool people instantly think about Stevie Gerrard and Fernando Torres. Both world class players, but while the pair are trigger happy, shooting at every opportunity there’s one man who loads the gun for them.

Xabi Alonso, the central defensive midfielder is a very disciplined role and nobody does the job better than Alonso. His accurate passing, fantastic touch and the odd goal helped Liverpool immensely and I can’t help thinking he will be sorely missed at Anfield.

Chelsea have restrained from spending to much this summer, only purchasing 2 players. 25 year old midfielder Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow and Daniel Sturridge from Manchester City, both for undisclosed fee’s.

Prediction:Manchester United to win the league best odds available 2/1 (Skybet).

Here are a few special bets I’ve found that maybe worth a cheeky punt:

Adebayor to score against Arsenal in both games 12/1 (Corals)
Arsenal to finish 5th 3/1 (Paddypower)
Tevez to score 2 goals against Manchester United 7/1 (William Hills)
Man City to finish 4th 7/2 (Skybet)
Man City to finish 3rd 8/1 (Skybet)
Andre Arshavin to finish top goalscorer 25/1 (each way 1/4 odds pays 1st 4) (Skybet)
