The most famous race in the world takes place tomorrow, the 2011 Grand National. The race remains the ultimate test, with over 40 horses battling it out over four-and-a-half-miles and 30 of the most demanding fences imaginable.

Last year Tony McCoy finally broke his National duck with victory on Don’t Push It. The pair will be reunited again this year and McCoy will be looking to win the race for a second year in succession and can currently be backed at 14/1. However no horse has won the big race back-to-back since the famous Red Rum in 1973/74. Other past National winners in the field include Comply or Die, currently priced up at 33/1.

Current favourite in the betting is The Midnight Club at 9/1. There is bound to be plenty of support for this horse with Ruby Walsh confirmed as jockey.

The Cheltenham Festival is famous racing event in British Horse racing. The prize money is only seconf to the Grand National. It is an event where the best British and Irish trained horses race against each other which is rare in the rest of the racing calendar. This year, it takes part between Tuesday 10th to Friday 13th March 2009.

The big race of the opening day is the Smurfitt Kappa Champion Hurdle. Ireland have been cleaning up in this two miler over the last decade but Katchit lead home a British 1-2-3 last year though he’s an outside shot this time round for a repeat though Binocular should mark another one up for Britain. The JP McManus owned horse will be making a first run of the year and is expected to win impressively.

Cheltenham hosts the first jumps festival of the new season this weekend, with the three day Open Meeting. The highlight is the Paddy Power Gold Cup Chase at 2:35pm on Saturday, where Silverburn is the 10/3 favourite at VCbet, with Imperial Commander, a 6/1 shot with PageBet, and Barbers Shop at 8/1 with BGbet following closely behind in the betting.

The highlight of Newmarket’s Cambridgeshire meeting takes place at 3:50pm on Saturday when the Cambridgeshire Heritage Handicap gets underway. Despite the huge field being very wide open, Swop has emerged as the clear 13/2 favourite with BGbet.
