Boat Race odds 2009 Oxford are hot favourites

March 28, 2009 by Filed under: Special Bets

With the forecast set fair for the Boat race, William Hill are bracing themselves for a run of money on the record time of 16 minutes and 19 seconds being beaten, and currently offer 8/1. Hills rate Oxford the 4/11 favourites, with Cambridge offered at 2/1. The boat race will be on ITV1 at 3.40pm.

“The weather forecast has improved all week and we now expect to have perfect conditions on the Thames, which is great news as we took a huge amount of money on one of the boats sinking earlier this week when the forecast was terrible. Despite taking a £2000 bet for Cambridge we will be in their camp as the vast majority of cash has been for Oxford, who are the heaviest crew in boat race history,” said Hill’s spokesman Rupert Adams.

Checking the BBC News, the Cambridge side have been hit with illness and had to re jig some of their team. The Oxford team have 5 people who rowed in the 2008 Olympics in there. With the boat race the winner is usually the favourite. I read somewhere you could have historically made money by blindly betting on the favourite in the boat race. I guess a big bet on Oxford is the way forward.
