GORDON NOW ODDS-ON TO LEAD LABOUR INTO NEXT GENERAL ELECTION
FOLLOWING his Cabinet re-shuffle, Gordon Brown is now an odds-on chance to lead his Party into the next General Election, with William Hill quoting him at 1/2 to do so, and 6/4 not to. Hills have also lengthened their odds for him to stand down before the end of the year from 4/1 to 5/1.’Mr Brown has improved his position since the Party Conference and during the financial crisis – but the imminent Glenrothes by-election could prove a looming problem’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
Harriet Harman has been cut from 4/1 to 3/1 favourite to succeed Gordon Brown as Leader of the Labour Party, replacing former favourite David Miliband, whose odds have drifted out from 2/1 to 4/1 second favourite. Hills also offer 7/1 Jon Cruddas; Jack Straw; 8/1 Alan Johnson; 10/1 John Denham and James Purnell; 12/1 Ed Miliband. ‘Mr Miliband’s fortunes have declined rapidly in the past couple of weeks and he has now been succeeded by Harriet Harman as favourite to be the next Leader’ said Hill’s spokesman Graham Sharpe.
